- Syrian Refugees in Jordan Facing Problems of the Underage Marriage


Agencies (IRW) - The rate of minor’s marriage among Syrian in #Jordan has increased recently, which caused extreme suffering for many female refuge.

According to a social study by a human rights organization, many Syrian families depend on marrying their daughters to reduce their financial burden or see marriage as a way to protect the honor of girls at risk abroad.

According to the study, figures from the Jordanian population document a steady increase in underage marriage. In 2015, brides aged 13-17 accounted for nearly 44 percent of all Syrian females in Jordan, compared to 33 percent in 2010.
In 2015, 11.6 percent of all marriages were underage, compared to 9.6 percent in 2010.

The number of population Jordan is 9.5 million, of whom 2.9 are non-Jordanians, 1.265 million are foreigners, or twice the number of registered refugees in Jordan since the beginning of the conflict in #Syria in 2011.
